Visiting my old host family

I won't write "Visiting my old host family one last time" because I'll only live 20 minutes from them. I'll have plenty of opportunities to visit once I'm back in California :) I went there to drop off the car and to have lunch with their new Finnish au pair Suvi. We had already skyped once and spoken on Facebook so it was fun to meet in real life. She is such a sweet girl and I know she is a great match for the family. She has a ton of siblings so she is used to having a lot of kids around. The best part about talking to her is of course that we are both from Scandinavia and can relate to each other in many ways. The difference between our countries and America/California is huge so we talked a lot about what she had noticed so far in her first week. I gave as much advice both on Skype and at lunch as I could. Everything about the family, the kids, work and free time. So far things are going well for her, we talk once in a while on Facebook and she knows I am always there if she needs advice on how I handled certain situations with the kids.

After lunch we walked back to the house and all of the kids came home from being out all day. They gave me the most amazing good bye gift ever!! It was a drawing of me and the kids baking, haha! It's so cool. It looks just like us :O The drawing is of the old house since that is where we spent the most time together. The waffle iron is there and of course the chocolate chips since we baked a lot of cookies. Matteo wants to eat the batter while Daniel and Amanda are discussing who gets to pour what in. I have covered their real names on the picture of course, but we all have our names on the hats. I'm going to keep this up on my wall for the rest of my life! What a great memory.

I stayed for a while to hang out with the kids and talk to Lucille. It was so much fun seeing the little ones and how much they have grown during that short time I had been away. After they had dinner and I had hung out in the playroom with all three of them for a while it was time to go back home. It's such a strange feeling leaving a house that you have very unusual memories from. Being an au pair is an unusual experience and it's not going happen again in my life. So it's weird leaving one day. But I am so happy I'll be living close to them so I can see these wonderful kids grow up and also get to know baby J some more, since he definitely won't remember me.

I took Suvi for lunch at Crepevine :) the number one meet-up place for Mountain View au pairs ;) at least in the beginning!
I was impressed at how complicated things Matteo could build now... dude, how long was I away? xD
