Took my aunt to Santa Cruz and Effie's!!
We got a lot done on my aunt's last Saturday in America! Late in the afternoon we drove to Santa Cruz, fog was covering the mountains in the most beautiful way. We had sandwiches at Togo's and then gave Ingegerd a tour of one of our favorite places :) First we decided to show her the west cliff where Nick almost got swept away by the waves not long ago! It was pitch black dark but my aunt could see the powerful waves smashing against the rocks, although they were nowhere near as big as the last time. After that we drove up to the warf, parked the car and checked out those cute little candy stores where they have everything that you can wish for. I found my favorite treats - belgian sea shells, there is seriously no better chocolate according to me! Nick and Ingegerd found their beloved toffee again, I personally think it's too sweet. They also tried an interesting piece of chocolate covered bacon... as a vegetarian that is DEFINITELY not my cup of tea xD but they seemed to like it!
Under the pier you can almost always spot giant sea lions. This evening they were resting in one big pile and it was a true joy hearing them "talk" loudly to one another. We looked at them while Nick told Ingegerd about the time he jumped from the pier naked after his friends dared him to do it, he immediately regretted it ;) Completely naked in ice cold water with an injured leg from what can only have been a sea lion ramming into it, he finally made it back to shore. Luckily older Nick has calmed down... a bit ;) haha
I had never been to a big arcade, just the small one I often took my host kids to. So we ended up going to the arcade by the beach. Ingegerd had a cup of coffee and enjoyed watching me and Nick throw away our money on these games, haha! ;) It was really worth it though. We knew we needed to save our money but before my aunt arrived we had promised ourselves to just let go for one week and not worry about that. I sucked at all of the games except for "Deal or no deal" and throwing a ball into a basketball hoop. I was seriously sweating afterwards because I had finally found my calling of what I was good at xD We won a lot but gave away our rewards to a family with little kids since the prices were mostly for kids.
Never did me and my aunt think we would be sitting at an American karaoke bar together one day, but that is exactly how we ended her trip! Effie's was the perfect place to wrap up her vacation! Unfortunately there were three(!) birthday parties that night, lol. Crowded to say the least. I had hoped to be able to introduce her to more of our friends but we had a good time talking to both old and new friends :)
We didn't want to send her back to the hotel with nothing in her stomach so we went home real quick to fry a bunch of stuff, lol. The cutest thing happened as we were walking towards the house. Buggy saw us and came running up to me meowing and she bounced so much that it sounded like she was yelling "MOOOOMMMYYYYY!!!!" ... hahahaha xD Easily my highlight of the day!
West cliff

You can sort of see the waves. They are very far down.

Sweeeeeet!

Haha, Ingegerd quickly realized how easy it is to love this guy :D

Sleeping sea lions

We had to pose in front of this sign after Nick's long speech about pelicans on Alcatraz!

I seriously thought I had a chance of winning over Nick at this, since I have played it against Amanda and Daniel many times. But apparently beating a 26 year old in this game is harder than beating a 4 year old...

Deal or No Deal... I got stuck here for quite some time :P

Effie's!

Exhausted after a long but amazing day
