There is something I would like to address
Doing simple things like just going to the store and get groceries with Nick is fun. I suppose we should get married or something ;) haha. But this time we were in the hunt for ingredients for his favorite soup! He is always improvising when cooking food but this is one recipe that I doubt he will ever change. It's a clams and muscles soup with parmasean cheese, chardonnay wine, minced garlic, olive oil, butter, lemon juice, red pepper flakes and fresh italian parsley. He calls it Duckets Bucket! :)
After he finally got to enjoy that we went to Effie's but there was pretty much no one there that we knew. We pretty much always meet friends to hang out with there and Nick always ends up singing a couple of songs since it's a karaoke bar. But this time we decided that it was time to move on to the Boulevard instead where we met a lot more people.
You know, there is something that I would like to address. Sometimes when I have pictures of people smoking I hestitate if I should upload it on my blog. This is after all a blog about me working with kids and I shouldn't encourage smoking in any way. But what if there is a background story to be told? It doesn't really matter if you know exactly everything about Nick's past or not. All you need to know is that he has fought off addicition on his own, despite going through some of the worst things that I think a human being can go through. He has been treated so badly by people who he was supposed to be able to trust. Especially as a child that can really traumatize you and it's not strange in my eyes that he became an addict. But you know what. He took those experiences and decided to not let them control him any more. He decided to not hold grudges, to get rid of his addictions and always work towards becoming a better man than what he was the day before. It wouldn't have made him any less strong if he had gone to rehab, but he never did because he was so determined to make it on his own. Now he has finished his high school degree, gotten a job that will give him great benefits his whole life, he is saying good bye to people who holds him back and he is marrying the most wonderful person in the world (mohahaha). What I am saying is; smoking cigarettes isn't healthy but considering what he has been through and how far he has come, those cigarettes are the least of my concerns. If that is what he needs to keep this balance going then I am fine with it. Because it's an amazing balance. Never would he ever smoke in front of little kids because the thought of doing that disgusts him. He was forced to endure that himself as a child and instead of repeating that bad cycle, he is making sure that no children around him will ever have to go through the same thing.
Getting that wine in there...
