A real star
Sitting here on an early Sunday morning listening to Avicii. Not because I get what the big deal is about DJ:s or why they are so popular. But his songs reminds me of Swedish summer and since it's raining here in Chicago it's nice to dream myself away. It's ironic how life works. I know many au pairs are crazy about Avicii and have been fighting their hardest to save up money for his gigs here in The States. But me who knows his brother and probably could get an easy way into one of his concerts is not interested at all. Even more ironic is that both me and his brother are rock n rollas at heart so house music isn't really our thing. It's weird how someones biggest dream can be so close to someone else who aren't even interested in it. Something that seems impossible and unreachable to one person can be insignificant to another. I used to know someone who plays guitar for a really big rock star but after hanging backstage enough times I know that the glamour is just an illusion. That Hollywood dream isn't as compelling to me as when I was a teenager and my room was literally covered from roof to floor with celebrity posters.
But I love that this mirror of illusion has been cracked to pieces because that gives me the opportunity to see who these people really are. It's easy for me now to look beyond interviews, red carpets and flashy outfits and instead look at them and know that they also go home at the end of the day. To their families where the dishes are piling up, to their empty apartments, to a place where they face the same struggles as we do. I don't see any reason to put them on a higher level of status than me. If you want my respect then you need to claim it just like everybody else; celebrity or not. And this guy did it. Not because I met him personally but because his incredibly sweet personality shined through everything that he did.
Cory represented what "Glee" was all about. He was this tall and gangly guy who couldn't dance and didn't think he could sing, but still got cast as one of the lead roles on a TV-musical. He played the popular quarterback who showed that it could be cool to get into the arts and hang out with the outsiders. And he didn't have any big plans after high school, he just lived in the moment and one day he knew exactly what he wanted to do. Which is how life should be! There's too much pressure on us all to succeed, but success is to be happy. And if you don't feel happy with a 9 to 5 job and would rather go on a trip around the world - then do so. It's possible. I was so sad when Cory passed away exactly 1 year ago because he was a breathe of fresh air. People who don't like "Glee" looked down at him for dying of a drug overdose and didn't give him the respect that he deserved. Being a drug addict doesn't define you as a person. If they had known who he really was and looked beyond the headlines, then they would have seen a terrific guy with a heart of gold who always came to work with a smile on his face. And his girlfriend Lea Michele, who also plays one of the lead characters, has handled the situation beautifully.
