We moved to a new house
On October 5 we finally moved to the new house! The moving date changed a bunch of times simply because the house wasn't done. My host parents spent a long time designing it and I have slowly seen it being built since it's just a few streets away from the old house. I hadn't seen the inside of the house until we moved though and I just loved it. When we moved it was exactly two weeks left until I had been in California for a whole year. Funny coincidence. I'll never forget being dropped off by the taxi in front of a house that I couldn't see because it was so dark. All I heard was a water fountain and then my new host mom came out and hugged me. It feels like yesterday and yet so many things have happened since then.
The house is 2½ sizes bigger than the old one and is so beautiful. We have a ton of more space to move around in the kitchen which was a problem before when it got crowded in there. From the kitchen we can easily see the kids play in the backyard so we don't constantly have to be out there if we have other things to do. The ceilings are very high and has windows which lights up the rooms. The back yard and front yard are big and perfect places for the kids to play. They had to wait a long time for the zipline to be installed which was practically torture in their eyes ;) My own room is in a seperate building from the house. It's connected to the garage but my entrance is through the backyard which makes it feel very safe. I have a bedroom with a big closet and a very nice bathroom with shower. The first two weeks in the house were so rough. The actual move went smooth but to unpack and set up furniture took forever. Me and Lucille did a lot of the work, plus took care of the kids most of the time, so we were exhausted. And let's not forget that Lucille was very pregnant at the same time!
Not everyone were happy about moving though. The kids definitely did not like the idea of it which is understandable.
Matteo - "I liked our old house better"
Marco - "Oh yeah, what did you like about it?"
Matteo - "I liked the chairs... I liked the tables..."
Right after we moved Lucille said "This morning my project for you is a trip to IKEA." Then she gave me money to buy furniture to the new house. She of course knows I love that place since it reminds me of Sweden so I was happy to go! There were so many furnitures though. Super heavy packages and I ended up having to go three more time within a few days because I got some packages wrong and then she added a bunch to the list. I was tired to say the least! Npw I'm even more impressed by Nick who carries hundreds, sometimes thousands, of heavy packages like that every day at work.
Both me and Nick lived on the rush from my birthday party for days which made the move easier. We basically wanted to call every single person to say thank you for coming. That night was epic. What Nick wrote on Facebook sums it up real good:
"What an iconic event. This night will forever go down in history with warm memories and real love. Thanks to all who made it out and making my fiancés 25th birthday an incredibly unforgettable one. I love you all."
Bye old house
When you're between houses you have to get breakfast in other ways so an egg McMuffin was perfect ;)
New kitchen and living room. It's full of furniture and carpets now but this is how bright and open it looked when I first stepped inside :) I won't publish very many photos of the house since I of course don't want to give hints to where the family lives.
My little room that is connected to the back yard. I actually forgot to take pictures of the room so I'll definitely do that before leaving.
We didn't have any covers for the windows the first week so I had improvise when I showered. Although the tape ended up getting wet when I was showering so it fell down xD haha. Thank goodness my bathroom is sort of around the corner from the big house.
IKEA I'm back!
First round, so much stuff and this is not even half of the stuff that I ended up buying during the whole week.
After sweating like a pig carrying those packages I cooled off with the Swedish Christmas drink julmust, what a lifesaver!
So many Swedish Americans have been waiting for loose candy (lösgodis) to be sold at their IKEA. And now ours has that too!
My birthday present that Sofie sent to me from Sweden :)
Sweet looking carrot cake!
Even though I'm a vegetarian I of course buy meat that Nick likes sometimes. This time I got him a rib eye steak. Since I have no knowledge of what good meat is I had no idea that this is a nicer one :P haha, he was very happy when I came home with it to say the least. He ended up cooking it like this :)
During the move to the new house in Mountain View I brought a bunch of stuff and clothes to Nick's house and also did laundry here. It was just easier that way. But I ended up keeping a lot of my stuff here and now I practically live in San Jose which is cool :)
